About Visit Scunthorpe
Visit Scunthorpe started out life many years ago around 1995 when I first started developing web sites and set up my "home page" to post messages and thoughts about what I was doing for friends to see.
Little know to me at the time, this was a phenomena which was to become known as Blogging. Now obviously when I first heard about blogging I thought that it was a bit naff, and then suddenly realised that it was something I'd been doing for years.
I decided eventually to register VisitScunthorpe.Com as a domain name as Scunthorpe is where I was born and have lived most of life, and wanted to help reflect the town in a positive manner.
My objectives are very straight forward:
- To report regional news in an independent manner, positively reflecting the town in a style which is in keeping with the socio-political context of the town.
- To provide a facility by which other people with links to the region could publish their own headlines (as opposed to just leaving comments on articles).
Moderation, rules and boring bits
How do we deal with moderation? All articles can be commented, if enough people complain and select the "Please remove this article" option then we'll have a look at it, read the comments left by those complaining and we will remove it.Reasons for removal will be limited to infringement of copyright by subscribers, Legal requirements or any form of incitement to violence be it racial, religious or otherwise deemed offensive. To date all members have used common sense with the posts, and as long as this continues, the facility for members of the public to post on the site will remain. Informed discussion is always welcomed, but VisitScunthorpe.Com will not be used as a platform for any form of hate politics or the victimisation of groups or individuals.
Privacy Policy
Just so you are aware in terms of privacy, we keep an absolute minimum of information, basically the data you enter on the sign up form, and the TCPIP address of every login and post you make. This is so that any abusers can be blocked. We will not sell your data, or send you spam, contributors may get occasional private emails (from me) regarding posts they have made or questions they have raised on the forums.
Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

How it Works
If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.
Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
