Youth Worker makes Award Final

01 February 2012 by Paul Rhoades

Those involved with the Friends of Ashby Pond Conservation group may recall that David helped Visit Scunthorpe members to set up the Friends of Ashby Pond in August of this year. If it had not have been for David's skill, interest and involvement in helping the community around the Ashby & Bottesford areas of Scunthorpe then the group would not have had the success which it has enjoyed to date.

Many thanks David, and best of look with the awards, lets hope you get the recognition you deserve.

Taken from press release....

Scunthorpe youth worker, David Plumtree has reached the finals of the largest youth volunteering awards in the country. David, who helped young people set up a vintage clothing store to raise money for charity, has been named as one of three finalists in his category for the vInspired National Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the achievements and dedication of young volunteers and youth workers. They aim to challenge negative attitudes towards young people by highlighting the creativity, motivation and generosity of some of the most inspiring young volunteers in the country.

David, 30, from Burton Upon Stather, has been selected from hundreds of nominations to be named as one of just three national finalists in the ‘Outstanding contribution by a Youth Worker’ category. After starting as a volunteer at a local youth centre he began full time work on a youth volunteering project and has recently set up his own charity, helping young people to set up their own volunteering activities. Most recently he has helped young people to set up their own vintage clothes shop, Old School Clothing Co. to raise money for local causes. He is passionate about giving young people the freedom to use their own creativity for good causes.

David said: “The change you see in the young people is amazing. They might not realize how much they’re growing at the time but sometimes you see them a few years later and they’re so grateful. It makes it all worth it.”

Nic Dakin MP for Scunthorpe County says: “David does some excellent work locally, particularly with young people. For David to have reached the finals for this award is very well deserved”

Terry Ryall, vInspired CEO says: “David’s passion for helping young people achieve their best is amazing. He has been selected as a finalist from hundreds of nominees for his energy, enthusiasm and un-relenting commitment to young people. He goes the extra mile to help young people follow their passions and to show the world what great things they have to offer.”

The overall winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony in central London on March 22, 2012.
