The new Westcliffe Primary School takes shape as building work continues at the Dryden Road site on the towns Westcliff Estate.
The 5.5m new Westcliffe Primary School is been built on the playing field and when complete the old school will be demolished. The development, which got under way in March, will also incorporate a 27-place nursery along with a Sure Start centre for young families and a hearing impaired unit, which will be the first to be opened in North Lincolnshire in 30 years
.
The new school will be the most eco-friendly in the region with ground source heat pumps which will provide around 60 per cent of the heating and rainwater will be harvested to flush the toilets. The building will be constructed on two floors and the internal walls will be steel studs which can be moved easily in the event of any changes in the future.
The school opened in September 1964 at a cost of £125,000 and consisted of both an Infant School and a Junior School on the same site, both with their own headteacher. In September 1997, the former infant and junior schools were merged into a primary unit. The ‘e’ on the end of Westcliffe was said to have been added by the headteacher of one of the schools to try and differentiate his school from the other after having mail wrongly delevered by the postman.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
