We Need Another Maggie ..

23 May 2011 by fans64

This country is losing its balls.she had balls, she knew how to stand up to people. I don't refer to her policies although ridding us of lefty unions was spot on.

We need that type of leadership again, we always do after a recession.

After a recession? It's only just beginning.

2,000 threatened job losses at the council

1,200 declared job losses at the steel works

And we should get rid of trade unions?

If anything now is a time to stand and be counted, not run away, doff your hat and hide.

Fair point Simon. As we don't have a "Humour" section (yet) I've moved it in to "Comment".

Thinks it's more like Fansie trying to wind a few readers up but we try to accommodate "all" views smile

I agree with Simon - this should be in the politics section;

I agree with fans64 - Cameron is a waste of space and we need someone "with balls".

The Big Society isn't about volunteering and charity but about individuals joining together to run the things communities need - social insurance via old style friendly societies, community schools & hospitals, housing trusts, community watch etc. Unfortunately we can't do any of that if we are forced to pay into the state system first. Cameron has the vision but no balls to role back the state and let civil society take the reins of power.

I defintely disagree with Paul - the wheels fell off for the private sector back in 2008. I don't remember anyone coming to my aid when I was twiddling my thumbs for 4 months; and when I did get back to work salaries had dropped by upto a third. Did I bleat to my union - no we got on with it because it is market forces. We've cut our suit to match our clothes and a lot of us are coming out of the other side. Now the Tories are rightfully addressing the costs of Labour excess. So we lose a few Diversity Officers - most of us could give a monkeys because we've already had our medicine. If it  isn't hurting it isn't working.

As for the steel industry its the climate change buffoons who spell its demise in Britain.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.
