UK UNCUT Plan action in Scunthorpe

11 June 2011 by Visit Scunthorpe Editors

We've just received the following press release from a group calling them selves Scunthorpe Uncut

We've asked them for some more information so when we get it we'll publish it.

Here's their press release in full...

UK Uncut, the group using non-violent civil disobedience to protest against austerity measures, launches it's first action in Scunthorpe next Saturday (18 June 2011). The local group aim to show that the austerity measures are not necessary, that billions of pounds are being diverted out of the economy that could otherwise fund threatened local services.

Scunthorpe Uncut promise a "lively, creative and challenging peaceful protest" and urge anyone with an interest in defending local services to meet at 3.00pm on Saturday 18th June outside the Natwest Bank, Scunthorpe High Street.

Wonderful! Make those who created this crisis pay for it. Why should we bail out the bankers with cuts to essential services. Save the NHS, Save Social Services, Save the Libraries, Tax the Banks and start collecting Tax from the Corporations. I want to join Uk Uncut...where do I sign?

I think im going to turn up with my camcorder.

Im all for civil disobedience as long as within the limits of the Law. protesting just doesnt work. Im taking the camera to make sure the police dont get out of control and film any idiots who think they can use the event to commit some mindless violence.

civil disobedience and Lawful rebellion is the only way the elite class will get the picture that you cant treat the massess like a heard of sheep. we are all individuals responsible for our own lives and they need to treat us as such and not like a bunch of 'sheeple'

It will also be a great chance for politically minded people to engage in conversation about how best we can change the status quo. maybe there will be people at the event with some good alternative ideas.

Im just looking forward to a good spirited good natured event as im sure we all are.

See you there Neil. Uk Uncut have a great record of organising disciplined, peaceful and creative protests. I'm sure this will be no different.

When you are wielding your camcorder please remember that my left is my good side and I would appreciate it if you didn't film the top of my head where it's going a bit thin.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works
