Tree Planting at Central Park **UPDATED**

In response to North Lincolnshire Councils 'Plant a Tree' call to local school children, which youngsters are being given the chance to be part of Central Park�s revamp, 278 pupils from 29 schools responded to the councils invite to take part. Over a three day period on Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th November they will help plant a total of 179 trees. Although on Monday 22nd, council workers had already started to plant some of the of the trees. School children planting trees at Central Park, Scunthorpe. 2... on Twitpic Children Planting Trees in Central Park Initially the first ten children to respond were to have their tree named after them to commemorate the planting but due to the overwhelming response, the council has now extended this to the first 29 children. The remaining children have been invited to help plant around 150 other trees. These are about 2ft tall and comprise thorn, hazel, elder, field maple, native wild rose, and verbena. School children planting trees at Central Park, Scunthorpe. 2... on Twitpic Children Planting Trees Trees will eventually be planted from the Kingsway along the newly constructed path which which leads to the childrens play area and eventually onto the Pods Sports Academy, this is hoped will create a boulevard through the park. Part of the new... on Twitpic Play Area Closed Whilst the planting takes place it is of concern to see part of the new childrens play area closed off and locked up with a padlock whilst it awaits repair. The play area was opened in July this year proir to the start of the school summer holidays and has been popular with youngsters since then. Is this closure a sign of wear & tear on the play equipment in which case it should be more robust or is it a sign the the vandals have struck.
