Tory Apathy and in fighting

12 May 2011 by Vicki Mumby

"I hope I don't win i didn't really want to do it." This was a mantra of one of the Tory candidates for Burton and Winterton at the Local Election count! Unfortunately if you voted Tory on Thursday it would appear that you are being severely short changed. If rumours are to be believed the new rulling Tory group have started their time with power struggles who will be leader Liz Redfern or Rob Waltham? Well both have had their share of problems Liz was found to have paid not business tax during her period as leader, and Rob well his problems have been documented in the Scunthorpe Telegraph. I would like to remind Liz and Rob that whoever loses be very careful because if you cross Brigg & Goole Conservative party you end up on the independent benches like John Berry or Don Stewart!

Maybe you don\'t need any forewarning. But do be mindful that there have been and I suspect there are still some nasty, devious and vindictive (indeed allegedly \"corrupt\" according to Thoades himself) politicians, councillors and council officers in North Lincolnshire. From my past experiences, even moreso in the Brigg & Wolds ward when the Tories last held control and far more influence over the council and certain of its services. Equally just reflect that there are those within North Lincolnshire\'s Fred Karnos circus, of tin pot politicians and councillors, who appear not to have the intellect or resilience to segregate what constitutes lies from facts, half truths and certainly the whole truth. And indeed, at any sign of such scrutiny, who cry foul, plead that their personal characters are being assassinated/defamed and dole out their legal threats. Presumably to perhaps yet again bully, intimidate and/or to undemocratically stifle our democratic rights to scrutinise, challenge and expose the political judgmnents, calibre ands credibility of certain of this 2nd rate council\'s 3rd rate councillors and council officers. I agree with your perception of those particular political shenanigans. But would you not agree that the conservatives\' tactics of \"sidelining, out-manoeuvring and forcing out\" have been far more credible and effective than any efforts of the council\'s legal and democratic minders and its Standards Committees in getting rid of the deadwood from our local government system? Perhaps Thoades could enlighten us all some more regarding his allegations of corruption on both sides of Scunthorpe\'s political system. Does or has that corruption in the past reached into North Lincolnshire Council itself or any of its services? Such as its Legal & Democratic Services; Highways and Planning?

Others are quite correct. This is not about me. It is all about others. Outsiders, families, individuals or small companies unwisely and insanely risking relocating to such a parochial backwater like Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire. Potential newcomers who, for whatever reason, don\'t do their groundwork, don\'t have the contacts and aren\'t in the know? It is only by constantly publishing my experiences, observations and judgments that hopefully I can give them a flavour of what to expect. And if that avoids even just one company, family or individual from making the same mistake as we did; then trust me, it will all have been worthwhile. But of course there are patronising eeejits who lack the powers of deduction and intellect who fail to appreciate why I won\'t let it go. Besides, in the meantime while the property market picks up, why spoil the fun!? :-)

Nothing would have given me a greater satisfaction than to have wisely chosen and relocated to an area where my usual values and practice of do unto others as you would have them do unto you, would have continued to serve me well.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
