As those of you following me on twitter will know, I've been very interested in the phone hacking scandal since it broke, and decided today to share my thoughts on the corruption which this has revealed.
Firstly, I think that every right minded person is absolutely correct in the condemnation there has been of the News of The World for their actions. To invade the life's of celebrities is underhand and in my opinion offers little real value to the public as a whole. To behave towards victims of murder and terror in the way they have is nothing short of criminal and those responsible, from bottom to the top should be made to pay a high price.
But will this happen?
Already we see a white wash beginning to form, that sticky sweet veneer which is used to coat bad news and unsavory behaviour from our leaders is being splashed around liberally.
I'll start by saying I'm not a conspiracy theorist in the slightest, but doing some background reading about the main players in this charade does however turn up some very interesting facts when you start looking at the relationships which have existed between these people for the majority of their lives.
Now for those of you who don't now, former NOTW editor Andrew Coulson who was arrested yesterday started working for our dearly beloved PM in 2007 as part of the Murdoch press' campaign to elect the Tory party. It would also appear that he is very friendly with Rebekah Brooks who edited the sister paper the Sun from 2003 to 2009.
By appointing Coulson its clear that Cameron was making sure he could gain access into the Murdoch empire and the elite social circle which the press travel in, including James Murdoch, his sister Elisabeth, her husband Matthew Freud, Wade's second husband Charlie Brooks, and Nat Rothschild
Further links and friendships exist in the relationship between George Osborne who went to school with Nat Rothschild and then University (Oxford) were they were both members of the elitist Bullingdon Club.
Its also been reported that in 2008, David Cameron and his wife were flown to Murdoch's yacht in Greece in Matthew Freud's private plane and then went on to Turkey for a holiday.
So it would seem that as Cameron Says, "We are all in it together" he is right. The only difference is that he is in it, together with his elitist press owning Bullingdon dining friends. And we are left picking up the pieces, loosing jobs, having vital services cut and once again propping up the establishment.
Many people in the press are today saying that the closure of the News Of The World is our Water Gate. I hope its more than that, I hope its a watershed and that the public never again believe the likes of the Murdoch press.
The revelations prove what many have claimed for years, demonstrating the high level of corruption and collusion which has existed for decades (the fall of Clement Attley is attributed by some historians to a journalist at the Times).
The fact that police have taken bribes from journalists has also emerged. Does this shock me? No, but it will some. Now however I sincerely hope that the next time the likes of the daily mail talk about "Anarchists rampaging in London" at some demonstration or other that the public take the time to get on line and to find out what's really gone on.
This whole incident just proves that the press, politicians and police can not be trusted. Whats more this is not something restricted to just the Tories. It's come to light that just weeks before the last election Blair was on the phone with Brown attempting to gag MP Tom Watson when he started asking questions about phone hacking. And, more recently Ed Milliband has been reported as meeting with Murdoch socially.
Tory, Labour or Liberal, all the mainstream political parties have courted the media since the media has existed. They are in it together, and we let them be.
Perhaps with the rise in the popularity of social media and blogging, the traditional forms of journalism are starting to fail. Twitter turned News of the world into a toxic brand practically over night with advertisers receiving barrages of messages challenging them about advertising in the paper.
Egypt and the Arab spring had Tahrir square. The Brits are more conservative by nature and may be prepared to take a day's action action or go on a march for an afternoon. This token of protest will not make a blind bit of difference to Cameron and his ilk, they know it, and their media spin doctors continually twist the facts to suit their system to the point at which an alleged Labour leader speaks out against strike action.
As events this week has shown, only a continued and sustained onslaught uniting the whole of the public in their revulsion will result in even the slightest of change or compromise by the elitist classes. It's clear from these revelations that the ruling classes have picked up from where Thatcher's class war left off, protecting the rich and privileged while subjugating the poorer and less fortunate in society to further suffering.
Since this controversy began in 2006 with the royal phone hacking scandal; the whole damn 'establishment' has got away with turning itself inside out to defend and protect their 'system' of corrupt influences, self interests and advantages.
Albeit for the time being, it has apparently failed; I doubt whether this is to be a watershed moment. I suspect that it will eventually blow over and normal service will be resumed. The vagaries and inconsistencies of human nature and the public appetite for sleaze and titillation will undoubtedly create a demand and emergence of a "Sun on Sunday".
And besides any eventual fallout from the usual charade of lame duck, public inquiries. The establishment and its political and legal minders will continue to defend, harbour and seemingly condone such standards of conduct.
Such individuals have and will always toady up to each other; lie and cheat through their teeth to orchestrate and manipulate their devious and deceitful defences; and continue pulling the wool over most eyes.
I very much doubt that the public faith, trust and confidence in our supposed 'democracy' can ever be fully restored. I sincerely hope that I can and will be proved wrong!
