The signs are changing in the renaming of North Lincolnshire Council Head Quarters on Ashby Road in Scunthorpe.

As revealed earlier this month North Lincolnshire Council had proposed to change the name of Pittwood House (seen top right) to it’s pre 1996 name of The Civic Centre (middle right) as part of the Councils ‘Worksmart’ scheme which is aimed at concentrating all the North Lincolnshire Council staff in four core buildings which will enable then those buildings which will be no longer required to be declared surplus to requirements and disposed of.  To see that article click the following link;

The worksmart initiative at the council HQ included the Registrars moving from their accommodation on Oswald Road to the Civic Suite within the building and it is anticipated that this would enable couples to tailor whether they wanted a larger or smaller wedding ceremony to suit their particular needs.

It was considered that the new services provided an opportunity to change the name of the building to reflect its wider future role, and reflected a more public facing building.  The original name of the Civic Centre was considered more appropriate for this wider use and that it would resonate more clearly.

A financial costing of approximately £500 has been put to the name change as it’s reported only to require the removal of the signage at the council HQ along with a few road signs that would need changing (bottom right) whilst all existing stationary would be used up.
