Scunthorpe Police Surgeries - May 2011

27 April 2011 by Paul Rhoades

A couple of weeks ago, our local Community Sergeant picked up his mobile phone as part of an initiative championed by Humberside Police and started tweeting. In just a couple of weeks he's gained over 300 followers and has made a significant contribution to the local social media in what can only be seen as a positive manner. The only exception to Sgt Main's tweets seems to have come from the Evening Telegraph who frankly should know better. Last week we saw a very negative article being published where an unnamed journalist made a very poor attempt at parodying the project. Not just Visit Scunthorpe readers took offence at this, Sgt Main was immediately defended by local councillor Mick Grant on his blog too. Anyway, we think Sgt Main is doing a fantastic job by keeping in touch with the community, and improving links between police and residents to help combat crime. Wishing Stg Main the best of luck, here's his list of Surgery dates for May 2011 when you can just turn up, meet him or one of his colleagues and have an informal chat about policing in your neighbourhood: Ashby Ward: Sunday 29th May at Morrisons 11am 1pm Bottesford Ward: Thursday 26th May at Teapot Hall 2pm 3pm Brumby Ward: Wednesday 11th May at Asda 10-12 noon Froddingham Ward: Monday 23rd May at Costcutters on Healey Road 230pm 330pm Kingsway & Lincoln Gardens Ward: Monday 16th May at Spar Brumby 5pm 6pm Town Ward: Wednesday 25th May 2pm 3pm Crosby Community Association, Frodingham Road Wednesday 11th May 2pm 3pm South Humber Racial Equality Council Any one wishing to keep up to date with Sgt Main's tweets about local policing in Scunthorpe should follow @SgtJamesMain on Twitter.Com

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
