Scunthorpe Food Bank Opens

24 October 2010 by Paul Rhoades

Scunthorpe foodbank operates from the Baptist Church on Ashby Road in Scunthorpe, and is designed to provide temporary, emergency relief to those in need in Scunthorpe. Featured on Look North this evening, organisers say its been an overwhelming success and has provided assistance to over 400 people in North Lincolnshire. Collections for food are held at local supermarkets, and are then collected centrally and packaged in to suitable food parcels. Parcels may then be given to those in need due to sudden unemployment, loss of earnings or problems with benefits. The organisers have collected over 4.5 tonnes of food and distributed 3 tonnes within the community. Projects such as these are of massive value to those in need, and should be supported where ever possible by the community. You may see collection points in supermarkets in forthcoming weeks; if you do, try to spare some canned or dried goods as they'll not go to waste. For further information about the foodbank, contact Scunthorpe Baptist Church on 01724 848388.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
