Opportunities for Local Bands

02 March 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Are you a solo performer, or a member of a band which comes from North Lincoolnshire? Do you run or manage a venue which hosts live acts? If so then there may be an opportunity for you to gain national recognition courtesy of your local MP Nic Dakin, and a new Parliamentary competition entitled "Rock the House" Nic is inviting nominations from within the constituency to be considered for the best live band and best live music venue awards of the first ever Parliamentary Rock the House competition. Nic will nominate one band and one live music venue from our area on 31 March 2011. Any band or live music venue can enter the competition by downloading and completing an application form from www.rockthehouse.me.uk which should then be sent to Nic Dakin MP at his Constituency Office at the Rear of the Magic Moments, Cole Street, Scunthorpe, DN15 6QS, by 31st March. Obviously we'd ask any one competing to drop us a line here at visit Scunthorpe, and if you send in a couple of photo's we'll happily do a quick write up about either your band or venue. Any members of the public please also let us know who you'd nominate. Speaking about this earlier Nic said "I know that the future of music is in the hands of up and coming artists and the live music venues who support them. Many new artists are finding it increasingly hard to break through into a sector where many consumers now think that it is their right to access content for free. " Finalists will be invited to a reception at the House of Commons, and the winner will get the chance to perform live on the Commons terrace, have a top photo shoot, network with industry leaders and take home some cool Yamaha gear and instruments. Do keep us in touch if you apply for this; I must apologise thought as I can't help but plug my my mate's band down in London who've done a great song all about The Bankers! have a listen, its excellent!

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
