Openly Local Directory

28 February 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Great news, VisitScunthorpe.Com has been approved membership of OpenlyLocal.Com a fantastic community resource which promotes and reports news from community web sites around the country just like ours! Openly Local maintain a list of over 400 similar community sites all around the UK where posters just like you can publish and discuss what's going on where you live. OpenlyLocal provide news feeds from these sites, and also maintain a registry of local council information for each area. Looking at the number of visitors we have been receiving in recent weeks (over 200 a day now), it seems like an excellent opportunity to invite more readers to stop being "lurkers" and to sign up for a free account so you can not just comment on the articles we write, but also publish your own news stories too. We are would be very interested to hear about any local events going on in the area, so sign up and post the details, similarly sports and social clubs, get an account and tell us what you are doing, if we get enough we'll create a sports and social section just for you! If you'd like to post fixtures, reviews or commentaries of games please do sign up and get in touch. Also, as we now have the facilities following our coverage of the CoR meeting and the NLC Budget meeting this month, if any one in the community would like to use our services to broadcast their sports or social event then just ask, we can set you up with a twitter feed etc so you can report goal by goal from your football game or event! All views, comments and points of view are welcome on this site, with the provision that they do not attack individuals, liable any one / group / company or incite violence or hatred. Paul.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
