Olympic Torch Coverage

25 June 2012 by Scunny Independent News

The Olympic Torch will arrive in Scunthorpe at Doncaster road at 2:22 pm on Tuesday 26th June.

The torch will pass along Doncaster Rd on to Oswald Rd at approx 2:37, and then on to Ashby Road at 2:43. If you are in the area of the Museum on Owsald Road and Howden's Hill / Ashby Road, then you might be on KNOW Media's film of the event as this is the first of two areas where they will be filming from.

They'll also be filming at the BBQ being held at Breeze Inn (Former Howden's Lodge) immediately before and after the event to capture peoples thoughts on the procession, so we'd encourage people to go there to record their views.

At 2.46 the torch will enter Centenary Way, and at 3.02pm leave The Pods back on to Ashby Road and the A18 Trunk Road at 3:06 before leaving for Brigg.

Again KNOW Media will have a camera and a photographer at The Pods so look out for them and see if you can get on camera welcoming the torch.

In the mean time we'll be broadcasting on twitter from our vantage point at the Breeze Inn, fast becoming the Visit Scunthorpe HQ.

If people along the way can tweet photos of the procession and remember to include @VisitScunthorpe in their message we'll pick them up and retweet them.

What's that you can't make it and your boss won't allow you to use twitter at work? Don't worry, you can show the old meany by visiting this page tomorrow when you'll be able to pick up our twitter feed from our live coverage session which will be re-broadcast through our site on this page.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
