North Lincs in Top Ten Scenic Drives

02 September 2010 by Paul Rhoades

I never normally stray in to the realms of the Daily Telegraph's web site, but this morning I picked up a message on twitter from Chris Skinner telling us all about how North Lincolnshire features in a Top 10 Scenic Drives list put together by none other that the Daily Telegraph The Daily Telegraph Article shows a picture of the North bank of the Humber bridge, ranked as the 6th best scenic drive in England. I must admit, I'm inclined to agree, it should receive recognition and be promoted for the benefit of the region. I've always found the sight of the bridge very striking and would love the opportunity to explore the internal structures, towers and views from the top, especially as my own father (who was a welder) fitted handrails in the towers. Having just enjoyed its 29th birthday, the Humber bridge is now no longer the longest single span suspension bridge in the world, but is still a site to behold. Visible from both Scunthorpe and Hull, our bridge is the 5th longest in the world, but hampers economic development by charging 2.70 each way for car traffic. Campaigns are constantly ongoing to scrap / reduce / frieze the toll charges on the bridge, the most recent prompting Scunthorpe's new MP Nic Dakin to ask his first question in the house.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
