New Website on way for Visit Scunthorpe

30 April 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Here's some news I'm really excited about. A good friend, colleague and and business partner of mine Shoodabean has taken it upon him self to develop an new version of the Scunthorpe Engine, the specialist database system we developed to host VisitScunthorpe.Com Shooda's been working away very busily over the last couple of weeks putting together a new blogging tool set for the site, to provide contributors with more control over their articles and to improve editing and publishing facilities. He is also looking to improve the overall site optimisation, allowing each article to have its own individual web page as opposed to being displayed in line from within the main engine. Features Shooda's working on at the moment include Rich HTML Editing for news stories and Image Upload Facilities. We are also toying with the idea of adding email alerts so that when comments are posted on a story, the author is informed of the comment being added. Any members who would be interested in forming part of the Beta Test team, please, drop us a comment below and we'll email you details when the system becomes available for test. We would imagine this would be at some point in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Many thanks to Shoodabean for these fantastic improvements which we hope will not just improve the overall accessibility of the site, but will encourage more members of the public to publish their views on life in Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire. As always VisitScunthorpe will carry no adverts and will remain self funding, financed entirely by Shoodabean and Thoades. Any one wishing to make a contribution either in time (testing), material (stories, photos, graphics or even a new logo!) or financially is warmly welcomed.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
