New Store Opening Date Nears

The new Primark store in Scunthorpe continues to be fitted out ahead of its opening on the 17th May. Glasgow-based oufitters Morris & Spottiswood are currently adding the finishing touches to the store and a spokesman at the site confirmed the would be ready on time.

The store was originally due to open in time for Christmas 2010 but this was delayed after asbestos was found in the building. A new date of 19th April was given but again news of the delayed opening was first broke on Visit Scunthorpe on 23rd March.
The redevelopment of the store includes building a second-floor extension and expanding the retail space on the ground and first floors, this will see 38,000sq ft of retail space. The work has also seen the installation of two escalators, a lift and loading bay.
In February Primark received over 3,750 online applicationsfor the 132 full-time and part-time jobs meaning that about 30 people were chasing every vacancy, from the initial applications, 735 candidates were shortlisted for interviews at the town's Wortley House Hotel.
