Locate a Councillor

06 June 2010 by Paul Rhoades

An exciting new section has been added to Visit Scunthorpe which will provide members with the ability to search for and locate local councillors. Currently there are 43 elected members of North Lincolnshire Council representing the 18 wards which make up the area. These are all listed on the North Lincolnshire Council web site, along with their rolls and responsibilities. However, there is no way using the NLC web site that members of the public can quickly and easily search for a Councillor with particular responsibility for a particular job or task. That's where VisitScunthorope comes in. We've spent the day entering all 43 Councillors details in to a shiny new database along with their party, ward, email address, rolls and responsibilities and committee memberships. Then we wrote a semi-reasonable search facility which will search through all of these details to find matches or partial matches for each councillor. Its that good it even details will misspelled wards or names! For example, if you wanted to know who the major was, you'd go to the search box in Local Government and type in Mayor - it would show you not just the mayor but also the deputy mayor too! You can also get a list of every one on the planning committee by typing in planning, which is useful for people wanting to lobby members over a particular issue. We are currently working on a new facility to message members from the site and to share with other users the questions and feedback which local residents are asking their local councillors. Once this has been completed I'm then going to move on to our local MP's, I'll also (with their permission) be providing archives of constituency news letters and similar publications. Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
