Legal Policy and Site Usage Update

Usage Policy

VisitScunthorpe.com requires certain information at the time of signup and in the course of providing participants with support. This information is necessary for us to provide quality support. This information is never released to others, unless we are ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction to do so. VisitScunthorpe.com has never sold or rented member lists or any other member information, and VisitScunthorpe.com will never do so.

Civil Investigations

VisitScunthorpe.com will not release a participant’s personal information or usage information to investigators, lawyers/attorneys, or agencies unless we are directed to do so by a court of competent jurisdiction in the matter. If there is a hearing in court, the participant will be notified so they will have an opportunity to contest the surrender of personal information.

Criminal Investigation

VisitScunthorpe.com cooperates fully with law enforcement agencies, yet there must still be a court order before VisitScunthorpe.com surrenders participant information. VisitScunthorpe.com will, when requested by law enforcement entities, acknowledge the existence of participants, and when requested, provide the technical language to include in the court order, "particularly describing ... the property to be seized." In a criminal investigation VisitScunthorpe.com is under a duty not to divulge the fact of the investigation to the participant.

Privacy

VisitScunthorpe.com holds personal information about participants in the strictest confidence and does not sell or rent that information. VisitScunthorpe.com will not release or divulge any participant’s identity or website information unless ordered to do so by a court of law.

Multiple Accounts

In order for all participants to enjoy the experience which VisitScunthorpe.com offers, we have a single account policy. We feel that participants who create multiple accounts to re-enforce their opinion create an unfair advantage over those who use the site in a legitimate manner. Constant offenders will receive a life ban.

We have no problem with participants creating multiple posts on the site, that’s what it is there for, but we feel that multiple accounts re-enforcing a single point of view are unfair, and do not reflect the spirit of the site offering comment and criticism from all quarters.

VisitScunthorpe.com does not enter in to dialogue regarding either the removal of posts or the banning of participants.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
