LORD GOD AND FAITH?

03 August 2011 by JOHN DONALDSON

Speaking of God, as one does, if it is clear that we are all generally agreed that there is a Lord God Almighty who alone created the heavens and earth with His peoples, it begs certain questions.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We are also agreed that God is a God of unconditional love to all people.

I personally some times have difficulty in considering the Christian faith belief that the way to God is through His Son Jesus Christ and through Him to Heaven.

As Jesus only arrived in this world some two thousand plus years ago, what has become of the billions of people that have come and gone before Jesus or Christianity was known.

Also, what is the way to Heaven for those people who do not follow the Christian faith and have never heard of Jesus?     How do they get into heaven?

Whilst I appreciate that there are many answers to my thoughts and I am sure that out there are many people still looking for something other than blind faith.  Is this to much and the belief in a Lord God Almighty is enough and leave it that.

Or can it possibly be that when we all get to our life on the other side that the God of unconditional love will not sit in judgement of His creations and (give or take some slight sorting out for MANS imperfections on earth) that is the spiritual life for eternity, irrespective of the Christian or any other religious belief here on earth?

John,

we are not agreed that God is a God of 'unconditional love to all people.'

If there is a God he is not, as far as i am concerned, a very nice God at all.

In the Book of Deuteronomy Chapter 13 he basically calls for anyone who doesnt believe in him or preaches for other gods to be killed in his name. if you find cities that pray to other Gods those cities must be burned and destoryed with all living things in that city to be killed and that the city never be re-built.

that doesnt sound like a very nice God to me.

I discovered at a very early age due to my forced attendance at sunday school that God loves no-one unconditionally. he doesnt even love those who love him unconditionally.

for that you have to fear him, keep his commandments, obey his voice and serve him.

all of this without proof of his exsitence.

needless to say i did not last very long in sunday school.

What is the point of your post John, its got nothing to do with local news. maybe you are simply bringing up a subject that you know will cause people to switch off from this website because most people do turn off when people start preaching religion to them. Is that your Goal? are you trying to get people to switch off from this website? are you trying to bring subject matter to this website to discredit it? what are you trying to do John?

its the good nature of this website that you can post almost anything, but it is supposed to be news about the local area or subject matter about the local area, not what you are writing about.

Neil Eyre in his comments on my post, asks what is the point of it?     Well it is certainly not meant as anything to do with preaching, especially of religion.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Obviously the post is not meant to be in the “Politics on Visit Scunthorpe” section but probably more appropriately should have been in included in the “National Views section”.   I apologise for that.

That being said, my post shows as always in my life, that I have been seeking answers to the meaning of the Christian philosophy and the bigger picture of life itself.

I did think and I am sure that “out there” there are people who have found these answers and I am interested in hearing their points of view.

The problem is that the answers out there are many and varied and whilst I have my own views, I consider they are probably quite narrow and require to be stimulated by wider thought.

Nothing more than that Neil.    No ulterior motives intended.

I was, however, interested in you quoting the, “Book of Deuteronomy” as a discrediting point of God, as God not being a God of Love.

As you are aware the Book of Deuteronomy is from the Old Testament which covers the original period of the basic Jewish faith and is considered by historians, academics and religious leaders as not a fully correct interpretation of the writings of the period.

Therefore, as you are aware, in 1979 the bible was brought up to date and published as a New International Version NIV by a team of top international Scholars and is renowned for its combination of accuracy and clarity of language,       However, the Old Testament is the history of the Jews, their version of the creation of life and their way of regarding God.

The New Testament which is “Christianity” is how Christians see God as “loving unconditionally” not “angry” as the Jews did.

..or we could rejoice in the fact the people are, in the main, good and loving and help each other despite there being no God (the burden of proof rests with the believers not the athesists). This in itself is enough for me and inspires me to fight for a world where the best of humanity can prosper, Heaven on Earth if you like. You may say I'm a dreamer...

I usually find religionists amusing and this post hits the spot when it comes to making me laugh. Please post more of your religionist material.
