Jubilee Monday

06 June 2012 by Mr Lincolnshire

For the first time in a number of years a procession of floats passed through Scunthorpe, to celebrate the Queens jubilee. Starting in Ashby and then passing through the town arriving at Glanford Park, where Jubilee celebrations where taking place. Been of the older generation this reminded me of times when we used to have a procession of floats though town on Scunthorpe’s Family Weekend held some years ago. Maybe some will recall such days. Looking at the crowds that gathered the roadside in Ashby, there still seems to be interest in such events.

Maybe we should all think about having something local again on a regular basis, as much community events have now seemed to have vanished. Once the town had a number of yearly events often keenly anticipated. Today that seems, a thing of the past, times have moved on but have they? Looking at Monday’s parade I think there might be a little something left if we just put a bit of effort into it.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
