History of Scunthorpe Web Site

05 August 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Nice little site I've come across about the history of Scunthorpe with some decent photos

The site is fairly extensive and has got lots of really good "Now and Then" shots showing some buildings which are still there today and how they have changed, and also, more typically with Scunthorpe what they've been replaced with.

I guess because Scunthorpe is such a new town (and celebrates its 75th birthday soon) rapid change is inevitable.

Feel free to have a look at some of our galleries there are plenty of photos there that can be used for free, none commercial purposes, if you use any of ours, just credit the source smile

I quite agree,

I came across it by chance researching into the history of the Concrete Pond in Ashby.

A community group / association is being formed to campaign for the conservation of the pond and the habitat around it, this can be assisted using the "Village pond" scheme, but evidence is required showing its public use for over 20 years.

Any one able or willing to assist please get in touch and / or give my personal account a follow in twitter - its Thoades

Sounds like a real opportunity for people to get involved in a major community issue which clearly needs and requires some local knowledge.  Maybe some of the workers or their families from the Anchor Project have some background as "Anchor Village" was on the site.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
