Tomorrow evening at 6pm the Friends of Ashby Pond will meet for the first time at the Beckwood Public House in Bottesford at 6pm.

This is a public meeting called for and organised by residents in the area who are concerned over the safety of the Concrete Pond now that it has dried out.

Residents have organised the meeting, inviting Andrea Davison one of the councilors for Ashby Ward to chair the meeting on behalf of the community.

It is hoped that the public meeting will attract all users of the pond, not just those living close by, but also anglers, dog walkers and wildlife enthusiasts to whom the pond plays a critical roll.

In addition to being chaired by Councillor Davison, residents have also arranged for Community Sergeant James Main to address the meeting over water safety fears and can confirm that Councillor Robert Waltham, Cabinet Member on North Lincolnshire Council will also be attending to explain the council's intent with regards to the future of the pond.

Organisers hope that following the meeting members of the public will agree to form a committee for a constituted group to help protect the pond in the future.

The agenda can be downloaded here, if you are attending the meeting, please bring a copy with you:

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
