Free Healthchecks at Ancholme Leisure Centre

09 August 2011 by Scunny Independent News

In a bid to help combat obesity and health problems, the council will be installing a new, free health check machine in the Ancholme Leisure Center at Brigg next week, which will be available to residents from the 15th August.

The machine will measure Wweight, BMI, Body Fat, Heart Rate and Blood pressure.

In a statement released by the council earlier this morning, Cllr Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for Highways and Neighbourhoods, said:

“We are committed to improving the health of people in North Lincolnshire and the Wellpoint offers them free health checks.

“This is a great way for people to check a number of health indicators to identify if there are any problems that need to be looked into.

“The Wellpoint kiosk will provide people with advice on how to deal with any issues that may have been highlighted and where to go for support.

“I would encourage people in North Lincolnshire to go to Ancholme Leisure Centre and have a health check.”

Personally I think this is a great idea as it will doubtless alert some people to potential health problems which they were unaware of, but they will have to go to the leisure center in the first place, so perhaps it would only capture people who are already "aware" of their health?

The machine will be mover around the area over the next few years, but in my opinion it would be a good idea if the council were to work with local retailers to make machines available in the foyers of supermarkets and the like, accompanied with a range of leaflets and recipe ideas on healthy eating?

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
