Drugs Gang Arrested in Elsham

14 February 2010 by Paul Rhoades

Elsham? Yes you heard right! Elsham of all places! The sleepy hamlet of Elsham nestled away in the hills behind Brigg was the centre of a massive drugs raid by North Lincolnshire's Operational Support Unit. According to reports from the Police, 8 males and 1 female were arrested in an operation which targeted a property in Elsham at around 2pm on Friday 12th. In the raid police reportedly found chemicals and equipment related to the growing equipment and chemicals which could be assumed to be for the propagation of cannabis. This is another in a long stream of raids made by police over the last year which has focused on cannabis growers in the region. Previous raids have included offices rented out by North Lincolnshire Council at Flixbourough Industrial Estate, a barn near Epworth with a hidden room and several domestic residences both in scunthorpe and more increasingly in more isolated villages around the region. In a recent statement police sources stated that cannabis cultivation was said to be one of the largest growing crimes in North Lincolnshire, but fortunately violent crime is on the decrease. Conjecture in the local paper suggests that this raid is thought to be connected to others, but no official statement has been made on this matter.
