Former Scunthorpe Telegraph site set for demolition
The Telegraph left the site in 2001 to move to the town's Park Square with the site being taken on by a property company from Sheffield, but was never redeveloped. In 2009 it was sold to local developer the Hunt Group Ltd, which includes Scunthorpe construction company Britcon Ltd.
Further use of the land is yet undetermined though the most ambitious plans in the past for the site have included in January 2004 planning permission being granted to erect a leisure complex comprising five two-storey units serving food & drink with assembly & leisure. Then in Febuary 2007 planning permission was sought for the construction of a 4-storey, 103 apartment block with an additional penthouse level providing a mixture of studio & 1 and 2 bed apartments and associated undercroft car parking, though this was later with withdrawn.
Subject to approval the work will commence on 14th March 2011 and is anticipated to be complete by 31st March 2011.
***UPDATE 16th March 2011***
The planing department have considered the application and decided that the councils 'Prior Approval' for the demolition and clearance of the site is NOT required. The development may therefore go ahead in accordance with the details submitted win the application.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
