10 March 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Crosby Employment Bureau, have recently organised an action / adventure day at Kielder Water in Northumberland for disabled children in North Lincolnshire. The trip was funded North Lincolnshire Council through their Aiming Higher for Disabled Children Short Breaks Programme. Paul Crompton, from Crosby Employment Bureau said that the weekend proved to be a huge hit with everyone, and that it provided the children with new experiences and allowed them to do things they would never have had the opportunity to do before. Paul said "This allowed them to push the boundaries of what they felt they were capable of doing as well as demonstrating that disability does not need to be a limitation." Activities included use of a professional climbing wall, zip wires across a river, abseiling wall and canoeing across Kielder Water. Paul said "These are all liberating experiences and everyone who went on the trip will have amazing memories." Other activities included a Velcro assault course, a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, sports hall and using the common room. Rachel Bancroft's who's son suffers from Autism said "Daniel did so many new things which he would never get the opportunity to try if it was not for the Crosby Employment Bureau. The trip was arranged by a number organisations which included Crosby Employment Bureau staff and volunteers, parents, the AHDC programme, The Calvert Trust, St Hugh's and St Luke's Schools and North Lincolnshire Council. Crosby Employment Bureau carry out a number of trips each year, Paul Crompton the Education Recruitment Manager told Visit Scunthorpe "All the staff and volunteers are itching to do it all again and hopefully the future will allow more trips to be funded." Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
