Budget Meeting Coverage

16 February 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Next Wednesday sees the council unveiling their new budget proposals for next year, in what promises to be one of the most interesting and long awaited sessions in council for a long time. It was very interesting to note that following discussions on Visit Scunthorpe over the last few days, (inspired by the contributor Hamst) Mick Grant has today announced on his blog that he is looking to tweet directly from the council meeting on what's happening there at the time it happens. Now you all know by now my penchant for technology, and my views on open and accessible government, so on a personal note I think its a great idea. I'm almost tempted to rock up there my self with mu iPhone and get twittering away on Visit Scunthorpe. As a result, something that I've raised as a possibility on Mick's blog is using CoverItLive to provide a rolling feed of news as the meeting goes on. Now I know for a fact that the ET have this service as it was used by Tim Sculthorpe at the elections last May, so perhaps they'll pick up on our discussions and cash in on what will be a very popular meeting by providing a live feed. If this is something reader's are interested in then leave a comment either here on on Mick's blog where you can also find out about another councillor who has started blogging.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.

How it Works

If you would like to have the ability to add articles and comments to Visit Scunthorpe then all you need to do is sign up with a valid email address for an account. This is free, your email address is confidential and we don't send out spam emails.

Once you've completed the sign up then you are free to post and comment on well... pretty much anything, we just have some basic civilised rules to prevent people from inciting violence, hatred or making individual attacks.
