Broughton and Appleby Road Improvements

27 February 2011 by Bernard

Scunthorpe Telegraph Viewpoint Park Square Scunthorpe As Bernard, myself and our team are visiting homes across all the Broughton and Appleby ward from Dragonby, Roxby and Santon across to Castlethorpe and Scawby Brook, we are finding out that many people have never heard of conservative Councillors Arthur Bunyan and Ivan Glover, the present elected representatives for Broughton and Appleby ward. It will come, perhaps, as no surprise to the residents of our area that Councillors Bunyan and Glover have voted consistently against Labours proposals in North Lincolnshire Council meetings: they both voted against the Council approaching the Department of Transport for additional funding to carry out repairs to potholed roads in our area; now, they have also voted against proposals in the Labour controlled Council budget for the major renovation of Broughton High Street! These works are going to make a real improvement to road safety for drivers and pedestrians alike, however our present Councillors voted against these proposals. We would be interested to know exactly why Councillors Bunyan and Glover decided to vote against these proposals particularly as they, the present Councillors, purport to represent everyone in the Broughton and Appleby area. Perhaps they would like to contact either Bernard or myself the details are on our website www.broughtonelection2011.com to offer an explanation. Paul Redfern Broughton and Appleby Labour Team

Poster has clearly stated he's canvassing for Labour, and has positioned the article in the Political Comment section. I any Tories, Liberals, Greens or members of the Monster Raving Loony Party wish to post on here they'd be just as welcome, providing they follow the rules. (see mission statement in right hand panel on each page for clarification)

Mr Fans, as you can see from the address at the top of this posting it was also sent to the Viewpoint Page of the Scunthorpe Telegraph. Will you be making a similar comment if it appears in that particular media. VisitScunthorpe.com, I would hope, will allow postings from all representatives of any party political persuasion given that it has no particular axe to grind. In my opinion, VisitScunthorpe.com is a vital part of North Lincolnshire's media and is therefore serving a long overdue and valuable function which I applaud. Long may VisitScunthorpe.com continue as it provides a free, unbiased and increasingly respected outlet for all people. Perhaps, Mr Fans, you should recall the words of Voltaire "Monsieur l'abb, je dteste ce que vous crivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer crire".

Thoades struggles with that one (being a humble uneducated technician) and hits the google translate button to save other readers the trouble "Monsieur l'Abb, I detest what you write, but I will give my life for you to continue writing"

quote your tired cliches all you like,I didn't need google for such an obvious one . The fact Is It's disappointing that politicians have seen fit to hijack a community site .I really thought that The ST is a big enough voice for your sort and that these sites could be something unique without the blatant political bias of Mp's and councillors. I was wrong.

Strong words, Mr Fans64. Hijacking a community site hardly. As already pointed out VisitScunthorpe.com is a unbiased and independent addition to North Lincolnshire's media and, as such, should be respected. Both myself and Bernard are very happy with VisitScunthorpe.com's Mission Statement which reads "here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area". We are a part of that community and are very proud of that fact. We also happen to believe that VisitScunthorpe.com is, to counter your point, "a big enough voice" for our sort and that because "these sites" (to use your words) are something unique, they actually allow real political discussion which has been sadly lacking in this area for far too long. Perhaps you are happy with censorship of the press, Mr Fans, we are not for as Camus said "A free press can be good or bad, but, most certainly, without freedom a press will never be anything but bad". Call that a tired cliche all you want!

Guy's while this is fascinating, I'd be interested to hear from readers what their voting intention is in may and why? While I take on board a point fans made in an earlier post about party alliance I believe strongly that we should vote with the best intentions of our community at heart, regardless of party. This is why on VisitScunthorpe I am very keen to solicit views and opinions from all sections of the community. In short all are welcome.

It's good that the labour team are canvassing the Broughton area for the coming local elections, but what ever happens I personally hope that labour generally get completely wiped out in the whole of North Lincolnshire, because in my opinion, as a corporate political party they lack, generally, financial understanding. Whilst clearly as a party their intentions are good and with the best of intentions the finance to pay for these schemes and intentions appear as a secondary consideration, hence the countray's financial problems.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
