Armistice Day Event

Crowds gathered in Scunthorpe High Street outside Marks and Spencer to mark Armistice Day on the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month. Cllr Mashook Ali, Armistice Day Service, 11th November 2010 on Twitpic Deputy Mayor of North Lincolnshire As a Royal British Legion poppy appeal flag flew outside Pittwood House on Ashby Road asking to remember 11-11-11 people started to gather outside Marks & Spencer for the event which started at 10:45 am to mark Armistice Day, 92 years after the end of World War One. It wasn�t just the fallen in that war that were being remembered but also those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in all wars through to the present conflict in Afghanistan. Armistice Day 11th November 2010 on Twitpic Veterans gather Leading the remembrance service was Deputy Mayor of North Lincolnshire Cllr Mashook Ali who was accompanied by dozens of veterans proudly displaying their medals. Men, women and children stood in silence as the 11th hour approached; as the last post was played the flag bearers lowered their flags then the following words were read, 'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.' this was then followed by a two minuets silence. The flags were then raised to the playing of the trumpet followed by the order for the flag bearers to dismiss. The gathering was then thanked for their attendance and for observing the two minuets silence, this was met with a round of applause as people then dispersed. Below is a video of the service.
