A160 Tolls - Council petitions government.

01 November 2010 by Paul Rhoades

On Tuesday 2nd November, Simon Driver chief executive of North Lincolnshire Council and Jodie Booth, team manager for Transport Planning, will address the Government Select Committee on transport. The pair will make presentations to the committee as it meets in Hull and aim to illustrate to the members of the committee just how damaging the Humber Bridge tolls are, and what impact not upgrading the A160 will have on the local economy. As this session is a part of a Transport Select Committee inquiry into priorities for transport spending, to support the local economy, its vitally important that our council staff make as steadfast case for the reduction or freezing of bridge tolls and for the development of the A160. Both of these issues are of vital importance to the local economy and are supported by many local businesses and workers. The A160 development will lead to the further development of the South Bank ports and will doubtless provide jobs and income for lots of residents of North Lincolnshire. Politics aside, and regardless of what side of the political fence you sit on, this is a motion which should be supported by every one for the greater good of the region. By reducing bridge tolls and improving infrastructure we will have more employment opportunities in the area, something which we as a region desperately need.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
