Whether we like our council or not, and some recent polls would show that the public does not like our council, we are stuck with our current crop of councilors.
It would seem to me that since this is the case we need to remind the people, that we dislike, that despite opinions they are still the people who ultimately hold the power over the spending of OUR money.
Its about time that they realized that we want to get the most out of the cash and we don't know what they are going to spend it on other than 500 jobs.
Its about time that our representatives really start to listen to us. I urge the council to get in touch with the electorate and advertise and hold an open consultation with the public.
Just give us the figures and allow the people to give you legitimate ideas for ways of better spending the money, because ultimately its our money and the least you can do is listen to us and our ideas in the council chambers so that it can all be on the record.
Its not much to ask. 1 full day. Full turnout of the council and full public gallery for just one day to consider peoples ideas and opinions. Its not gonna hurt and it would make us dislike you less for at least a day.

No response yet Neil? Four days and counting...I was just wondering whether any of those in control have contacted you directly to discuss your challenge. Or am I being a bit ridiculous with that question?

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Quite a challenge Neil. It'll be interesting to see the response from local councillors who regularly read this site. It would be great to see the council take a leaf out of Nic Dakin's book and at least make some positive moves towards meeting with a cross section of the local electorate. Voting once every four years doesn't quite seem frequent enough for the public to really have its say.
Unfortunately I'd guess you are fully prepared to be well and truly ignored on this one though:-)
