The YMCA's Sleep Easy is an annual event which aims to raise awareness of the issue of youth homelessness, as well as to raise funds to sustain local support services.
Every year hundreds of young people in our region leave home before they reach 18. While some are able to find suitable accommodation others become homeless, sleeping on the streets. Without the stability of a supportive home many young people find it difficult to continue in education or to find a job. Some disadvantaged young people also fall into crime and addiction.
Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Humber Region (GCHR) YMCA provides disadvantaged young people with extra support, including accommodation and coaching. Last year's Sleep Easy event took place at Blundell Park in Grimsby in January 2011 and raised £15,000 towards providing ongoing support to up to 250 young people accessing (GCHR) YMCA's hostels each year. Approximately 75 people ‘slept rough’ at Blundell Park and enjoyed a challenging night of shelter building, fundraising and fun.
Next years event is planned to be even bigger and sites in both Hull and Scunthorpe have joined the campaign.
The New Life Church (right) on Brumby Wood Lane will be the venue for the Scunthorpe Sleep Easy and anyone wishing to take part will need to register to participate.
The Sleep Easy 2012 events will take place overnight on the evening of Friday 3rd February 2012.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
