Walking your way to Health

The Walking the Way to Health Initiative in North Lincolnshire currently have Led Walks that are being run all over the county. All led walks are free and most are no longer than 3 miles each.
All of the walks are led and supported by at least 2 trained walk leaders, one with first aid equipment. Everybody is welcome to go along and join any of the walks. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day and find one of the walk leaders (they will be wearing a high visibility walk leader top).
Being physically active on a regular basis can significantly improve your health and fitness. Walking is ideal for building exercise into your everyday life. It is also a perfect way to see the natural environment around you.
Physical inactivity has been described as the 'Silent Killer of our time'. Lack of physical activity is one of the biggest causes of illness. The World Health Organisation has found that nearly 60% of adult men and women do not take enough exercise to benefit their health.
A person weighing 62kg (just under 10 stones) would burn 12 calories per minute if they were running a mile in 9 minutes = 108 calories in total
The same person would burn 5 calories per minute if they were walking a mile in 20 minutes = 100 calories in total
So it shows you do not have to run to burn off calories!! Walking is just as good!
The idea of the walks is to help improve peoples health. They are encouraged to walk at thier own pace, but at a pace, which makes their heart beat a little faster and their breathing a little quicker.

*MORE WALKS TO BE UPDATED*
It's advised to wear comfortable shoes with grip and be aware that some walks may be muddy in places. It is also advisable to take a drink with you, particularly in warmer weather.
If walking with friends, please consider car sharing, this will help cut down the number of cars at the start of the walk and prevent complaints from local residents. Additionally please consider residents and other road users when parking and allow adequate room for farming vehicles. Please do not park on verges, block driveways and consider the Highway Code when parking.
In severe weather conditions walks may be cancelled, please call 01724 297631 or 0771 7586380 before 9.30am on the day of the walk if you are in any doubt that a walk will not be taking place.
