Alan Betts butchers on Broadway looks set to be moving to new premises further along the shopping parade in Ashby.
The business which has operated from the same shop unit for over eighteen years is proposing to move from No14 to No4 Broadway which is a slightly larger building. Planning permission is currently being sought to extend the rear of No4 Broadway to allow for a new walk in freezer. The proposal is to build an L shaped extension to house the freezer and some additional storage room. It is said moving to the new premises is to make a simpler task of re-fitting the shop without disrupting trade at the existing shop.
The proposed new premises at No4 Broadway, between Wilkinsons & Ladbrokes, are currently occupied by Cooplands bakers and it is unclear what the proposals would have of the future of shop and staff. A spokesperson at the shop yesterday only said their future was uncertain.
*UPDATE*
Cooplands look set to move into the former Norwich & Peterborough premises at the corner of Broadway and Ashby High Street. The Norwich and Peterborough building society closed their Ashby Branch in December 2009.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
