Tories to push through expenses cuts

24 May 2011 by fans64

Despite Labour sniping in the St about transparency and Mark Kirk flatly refusing to discuss the issue when I raised the question several weeks ago on his blog,I can only summise he was against any cuts, the local Tories are doing something we should all applaud.

They will be reducing all councillors’ allowances by 10 per cent, cutting the maximum councillors can claim for mileage by half and reducing the mileage rate at which councillors can claim. They will also be removing the free food allowance.

They will also halve the 10,000 miles councillors can currently claim to 5,000 and scrap the £16.75 per day food budget. This is over and above what the independent remuneration panel recommended.

I am surprised this hasn't been noted on here before now. It's strange that the Labour group instead of welcoming such reforms are carping on about  the timing of when they saw the report, then again they upped their allowances only a short while ago while everyone else was making cuts.

Bravo Liz

Fans, I know you're a wind up merchant but this: "then again they upped their allowances only a short while ago while everyone else was making cuts."

Any proof or are you making this up? I know the answer - because I looked it up - but only fair you should print the truth, not what you want it to be,

If I can correct one point. Rather than 'liable', posters need to be wary of the definition and any risk of 'libel'. This Unison document gives a full definition and is a useful aid on the subject:  http://www.unison.org.uk/acrobat/B1875.pdf

I truly would hate for any Scunthorpian to be unintentionally tripped up or hoodwinked by any misinformation or perceived misrepresentation. Particularly when any could be so naive or gullible to reference or google the wrong word!!

Thanks for pointing it out, but you just make yourself look like a grammar nazi, I'm sure people here understood and didn't feel the need to be a pedant. sleepy

Cheers Bill / Toby, we've corrected our typo, one of the joy's of auto correct when posting from the iPhone!

Useful link from Bill though, so thanks for that.

Paul, A pleasure. I would hate for other posters and bloggers to be undemocratically gagged by scare tactics of libel threats from certain of Scunthorpe's politico non entities and bully boys.

Hopefully such as this Unison guide will help others to know where and when to "draw the line" in challenging and exposing the standards of North Lincolnshire's Fred Karno's circus of politics and local governance.

Toby, It is evident that my actual point - and moreover my continuing exposure and mockery of the intellect, calibre and credibility of Scunthorpe's political classes and apparatchik - was not understood. Sarcasm and satire are wasted on some!!

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
