Taylor Court Launch

Former England manager Graham Taylor OBE returned to his Scunthorpe roots on Saturday 29th January to officially open a new affordable housing scheme named after his parents.
Taylor Court which comprises 20 affordable homes for rent and sale has been built near the site of the �Old Show Ground� where Mr Taylor first found his love of football as a child watching Scunthorpe United, whom he later played for as a Junior.
The ground was also regularly frequented by his father Tommy, a sports journalist with The Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.
The site, off Smith Street, has now been redeveloped by local housing association Guinness Northern Counties in partnership with local firm MFM Developments Ltd and with grant subsidy from the Homes and Communities Agency. Together they have provided 14 houses and apartments for affordable rent and 6 two and three bed houses for sale through the NewBuild Homebuy scheme.

�New Build HomeBuy offers a more affordable option for people wanting to take their first step on the property ladder� explained Dan Harvey, Marketing Officer for Guinness Homes. �It allows you to purchase from as little as a 50% share in a property valued at �99,500 for less than �50,000. You pay a subsidised rent to the housing association on the remainder and, as your financial circumstances improve, you can increase the share that you own, up to full ownership if you wish.�
The open day event and show home was open to the public and staff from Guinness Northern Counties and Guinness Homes were on hand to answer questions from anyone interested in either the rented or New Build HomeBuy properties.
New tenant Mr Chris Housam moved into the ground floor apartment with his wife in December. He said: �We�re very pleased with this place, the quality of workmanship is very high. There�s plenty of open space for my wife who is in a wheelchair and the kitchen and bathroom are lovely. It feels as though a lot of consideration has gone into the building and the layout. We really like the way the apartments are for the �over 40�s� and everyone seems very friendly. We met the developers recently, a husband and wife team, when they were on-site and they were very nice people�.
Mr Taylor attended with members of his family to unveil a plaque and present a new football strip from Guinness Northern Counties to the girls football team from Henderson Avenue Primary School, where Mr Taylor himself was once a pupil.

As a thank you for helping to launch the scheme, Guinness Northern Counties and Guinness Homes made a donation of �250 to Lincolnshire House. Mr Taylor is Patron of the Scunthorpe charity which provides residential, day and respite care services for adults with Cerebral Palsy.
