Strike Action and School Closures

29 November 2011 by Paul Rhoades

Tomorrow's planned strike by local government employees will bring the state system to a halt for the day as workers stand up to the government to defend their pensions.

We understand that there will be a solidarity rally at Central Park at 11:00 am. All workers are welcome to attend and show their support for the strike

Within the public sector, the pension has always been seen as a part of worker's basic salary. Currently public sector staff are undergoing a pay freeze, and can look forward to a 1% salary rise in 2013. In a recent survey 89% of teachers said that they pay for classroom resources out of their own salary. Add to this the increases in fuel costs and rises in inflation and it becomes apparent just how hard low paid public sector workers are being hit by the government.

Also been told by members of the public that Melior, Gunness and Burringham primary are also closed. If you use those schools I'd suggest you ring them in the morning. Solidarity

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
