Schools set to receive international funding

19 September 2010 by Paul Rhoades

For several years now, The British Council and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) have made funding available to Schools wishing to take a lead in developing links with other countries. It is believed that by forging International links with schools in other countries children in North Lincolnshire can broaden their horizons and better understand other cultures with different lifestyles. Not only does the funding provide educational experiences for our young people, but it also enables schools in this area to generate income by providing professional development to teachers and staff from other countries by placing them in a partner schools and delivering training courses. So far Dalian Education Bureau has purchased training for 43 teachers and headteachers in our schools between 2008 and 2010. Additionally John Leggot college has this year catered for 120 foreign students who have studied there on their "A"Level programs. This is great news not only from an intrinsic point of view of broadening students horizons and social experiences, but also in providing additional income and revenue for the college. Currently 95,483 has been made available for the local education authority to support these activities. The funding comes from British Council, Specialist Schools & Academy Trust (SSAT), DfE Standards Fund for Modern Foreign Languages, and the Dalian Education Bureau.

It's also good to learn that pupils have the chance to learn Mandarin as a modern foreign language and 114 children from North Lincolnshire's schools have visited China, attended schools there and worked on their projects experiencing life in a Chinese family.
