A trust school is a state-funded foundation school supported by a charitable trust made up of the school and partners working together for the benefit of the school. Any maintained school can become a trust school primary, secondary or special schools. In legal terms, it is a Foundation School that is supported by a charitable trust. In order to become a Trust School, Melior must first become a Foundation School. A Foundation School is a State funded school which continues to be run by a Governing Body and is still part of the local authority. It differs from other schools in that Governing Bodies employ its own staff and its responsible for its own student admissions. The land and buildings would be held within the Trust and managed by the school. There is no change to the way the school would be funded, but belonging to a Trust increases the opportunity for accessing additional finance. In order to enter a formal Trust Arrangement, it is a legal requirement that the school changes its status to a Foundation School first. Partners are chosen who are able to assist in the meeting of objectives set by the Governors to help raise attainment levels. A Trust can have any number of partners and any number of schools involved. If more than one school is part of the Trust, the school continues to be manged by their own Governing Bodies, but the Trust works across the schools, helping to meet shared aims. Partners can include: Businesses Universities Community groups Educational charities Higher education institutions Further education colleges Any school wishing to become a Trust School must consult with parents of children in the school about the change of status and so open meeting will take place at the school on Thursday 9th December 2010 at 18:30hrs to discuss the proposals
