Save the NHS Rally

03 May 2011 by Scunny Independent News

Today Unison organised a campaign to raise public awareness about the new cuts facing the NHS. Unsurprisingly last friday (on the day of the royal wedding), the government saw it fit to bury the fact in the media that the NHS Budget for the UK faced further cuts. This is despite Mr Cameron's hypocritical lies which were plastered on the high street only a year ago claiming "We'll cut the deficit not the NHS". Sadly, any one voting Tory on May 5th should expect to see more of these lies as the Tories will doubtless carry out more of their idealogical attacks on public services in North Lincolnshire should they take charge of the council. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the demonstration my self today due to prior commitments in Birmingham, but one of our regular contributors was good enough to send in the following photograph of the stall. Scunthorpe MP Nic Dakin attending the unison campaign against... on Twitpic Photo: Hamst Campaigner's voiced their concerns that the proposed reforms will lead to a free market in healthcare and ultimately to privatisation of a world class system. This will affect a lot of families in Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire who are already living in poverty, making health a luxury for those capable of affording it. This Thursday voters across north Lincolnshire will have the opportunity to show their opposition to the unnecessary, idealogical cuts the Tory's are forcing on hard working families, while banks get subsidies and bonuses and big business exploits tax loop holes. Many members of the public are unaware, but there is growing debate in the independent media about the necessity of cuts at all, I'd urge reader's to take a look at UK UNCUT Note:These are Thoades' views - no one else's.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
