Sainsbury's when nearing completion.
New store features include pharmacy, caf on upper floor, meat, fish, and deli counters, plus a full TU clothing and homeware range and Click and Collect Online shopping to be offered in June.
Scunthorpe United kicked off the celebrations as Sainsbury's opened the doors of its revamped store. Players officially reopened the store together with residents from its local charity partner, Lincolnshire House. Later in the afternoon, customers were able to shop to the sound of a 50-strong choir from nearby Henderson Avenue Primary School.
The store, which closed last week to put the finishing touches to its transformation, has been extended by 19,000 sq ft to 49,000 sq ft to accommodate an upper floor with caf, deli, fish, pizza, and salad counters, plus a full range of TU clothing and a homeware section. It also has a brand new pharmacy, which will be open until 11pm Monday to Saturday, and until 4pm on Sundays.
Store manager Jon Cox said: "As the store's built on the site of the Old Showground, Scunthorpe United's original ground, what better way to launch our new look than to welcome some of our players along? I am sure our customers are pleased with our new look as well as the fantastic expanded range of products available at the store."
"It is also great news that we have been able to create 100 new jobs, something that is a real boost to Scunthorpe."
The store has recruited around 80 new colleagues to work in the expanded store, including a third of Marks and Spencer's colleagues after the local branch closed down. A further 20 new recruits will be taken on once Sainsbury's Scunthorpe launches its online shopping service in June.
Customers can already benefit from its Click and Collect service, which offers thousands more homeware products online, which can then be collected in-store at a time convenient to the customer.
Jon Cox added: "We're looking forward to continuing to support Lincolnshire House, our current local charity partner until May, when we will be looking for nominations for our new charity partner. To further cement our relations with the community, our builders, Longcross, are offering to support our nearby schools. Henderson Primary School will be getting a bike shelter, while they will also be making repairs in a room used for the breakfast club, and building a shelter at Crosby Primary School. Finally, they will be redesigning the kitchen at autism charity Magic Moments."
Sainsbury's free Click & Collect service allows customers to order a range of products for the home and garden online, including: cook-wear, toys, sports goods, small electrical items and much more, and collect them in-store. To take advantage of this service, customers simply place an order at sainsburys.co.uk by 2pm on a week day, and it will be available to collect from 4pm in-store the next day.

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.
Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute
independently with articles of their own.
You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.
Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
