23 March 2011 by Hamst

The opening of Scunthorpe new Primark Store has been delayed once again, the discount store was due to open on 19th April but now that date has been put back to an unconfirmed day in May. This latest delay comes after work was stopped on the redevelopment work on October 14th after contractors discovered the asbestos in the ground floor. The Health and Safety Executive had been notified and appointed a licensed asbestos contractor to undertake a full survey to identify areas in which the asbestos needs to be removed in accordance with the executive's guidelines. The new Primark Store under developement A future employee informs that the asbestos discovery had a knock on effect and thus delayed the fitting out of the store resulting in the latest delay. The redevelopment of the store includes building a second-floor extension and expanding the retail space on the ground and first floors, the work has also seen the installation of two escalators, a lift and loading bay. In February the retailer received over 3,750 online applicationsfor the 132 full-time and part-time jobs meaning that about 30 people were chasing every vacancy, from the initial applications, 735 candidates were shortlisted for interviews at the town's Wortley House Hotel.
