Primark Packs The Town

22 May 2011 by Visit Scunthorpe Editors

This Saturday morning saw Scunthorpe Town Centre packed with shoppers like never before. Footfall in the town has been drastically reduced since Woolworths closed and Marks and Spencer pulled out. Doom criers sounded out the death toll for Scunthorpe as BHS also closed there store a little later. Then, a shock announcement, BHS were coming back, and relocating to the vacated Woolworths store, leaving their original store on the high street empty. Primark Opening in Scunthorpe on Twitpic On the 17th May Primark opened their doors in Scunthorpe following extensive refurbishment work and several challenges along the way, the new store has immediately proved popular with shoppers. We've also seen this week Asda re-branding the Netto Store, and heard rumours of Pound Stretcher relocating to the former KwikSave site in Southgate Mall. With the Pods being completed and handed over this week, speculation is also rife that when the old leisure centre is demolished towards the end of the year, this will encourage other big names back in to the town to make use of a centralised retail facility. Lets hope that this can encourage the likes of Marks and Spencer's back into the town, along with other new shops we have not seen before.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
