Pot Hole Repairs Exclusive

28 February 2011 by Scunny Independent News

Despite the local Tories voting against the motion, last week we learned that the rulling labour group successfully managed to secure an additional 500,000 of funding for pot hole repairs by approaching central government and securing more funds. We have since learned that the council has also secured an additional 550,000 of additional funding for pothole repairs on top of their existing repair budget. This provides roughly 1 million pounds worth of additional funding for pot hole repairs on top of the existing 15,300,000 budget for Highways and Transport. Following enquiries by VisitScunthorpe.Com we can exclusively inform readers as to where they are going to see this money being spent first. Firstly we are going to see the reconstruction of Wells Street, Scunthorpe. This has been desperately needed for at least the last year, the potholes down this road are terrible (as highlighter before on Visit Scunthorpe) and has not been helped with the heavy construction traffic using the road to access the new NHS Super Clinic. Now this work is nearing completion however, the road is to be fully reconstructed making it passable again. In addition to the reconstruction project, potholes will also be addressed in the following locations: Glebe Road, Scunthorpe Ashby Road, Scunthorpe A1077 various sections, Barton Ferry Road, Goxhill A18 - Forest Pines to Brigg High Street, Broughton Doncaster Road, Westwoodside North Street, West Butterwick It's good to see a suitable mix and balance of roads both in and out of town being addressed, especially with regards to areas such as Broughton and Westwoodside. In the council chamber last Wedesday night some local Tories attempted (badly) to put across the point that the council focused more of its resource and interest in Scunthorpe its self and did not address the needs of outlying villages. Plans such as this show that this is not the case and that on the whole, the council seem to have a fairly well balanced and comprehensive approach to services across the community generally.

It's great the Tory government are prepared to give town's like ours extra funding for such matters despite the massive spending cuts .
