No Short Term Plans For Kingsway Site

04 November 2010 by Hamst

The last remaining section of Kingsway House at the corner of Lloyds Avenue, Ashby Road and the Kingsway will be brought down today, 4th November 2010. Work started on Monday to demolish the 50 year old flats and has been ongoing all week. The last section, facing the Kingsway, will finally bite the dust today after a delay in starting the work due to a problem disconnecting the gas supply. There is approximately 2,000 tonnes of hardcore material coming down and 70 tonnes of wooden waste, all the timber and wood will be sent to be recycled. The owners, North Lincolnshire Homes, are currently seeking planning permision to erect a temporary timber hoarding around the site set back an average of 2 meters from the current artificial stone wall which forms the perimeter of the site. Currently the are no plans for the redevlopement of the site, the application form for the temporary timber hoarding reads; Given the current financial climate the site is unlikely to be redeveloped short term and thus the owners wish to secure the site in order to prevent illegal entry by unauthorized people who may otherwise cause nuisance, post demolition. So its likely the site will remain empty and undeveloped for the foreseeable future.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.
