New retail park goes to planning

06 December 2011 by Paul Rhoades

The following press release, published at 5pm today, has been given by the council regarding the planned redevelopment of Trent Valley Garden Centre, and the development of another out of town retail park.

A local pressure group "Keep Scunthorpe Alive" has been campaigning against the development claiming that any such development will effectively shut down our already struggling town centre shops. Following a campaign highlighted by Visit Scunthorpe, over 1,800 objection letters were received by the council on this application.

The application will be heard on the 14th Dec at 2pm and promises to be lively.

Here's the council's statement in full..

High profile application to be considered by planning committee

The planning application for a new retail park on the site of Trent Valley Garden Centre will be considered by the council’s planning committee on Wednesday 14 December at 2pm.

The application is for permission to demolish Trent Valley Garden Centre and its associated structures (including three residential properties). And to develop a retail park with associated access roads, car parking, servicing areas and hard and soft landscaping.

The meeting will take place in the council chamber at Pittwood House, Ashby RoadScunthorpe,DN16 1AB. The meeting is open to the public.

As this is a major proposal, five people may speak in support of the application and five against. Each person will be allowed a maximum of five minutes. They will not be allowed to introduce any new material or distribute plans, photographs or written material at the meeting.

Requests to speak at the meeting must be made (no later than 48 hours before the time of the meeting) to the Democratic Services team. To do this please call 01724 296232 or emailplanningcommittee@northlincs.gov.uk. The procedure is governed by the council’s Procedure Rule 35(f). A copy of this is available on request from the Democratic Services team.

You can view the agenda for the meeting, including the officer report and recommendation (see application number PA/2011/1008) by going to the planning committee agenda - 14 December 2011.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
