New Homes Launch Scheme *Updated*

11 January 2011 by Hamst

Former England manager Graham Taylor will be in Scunthorpe on the 29th of January to launch a New Build HomeBuy Scheme. Guinness Homes have invited special guest Graham Taylor to officially open their new site in the town, named Taylor Court, it was chosen by Graham in honour of his parents Mr & Mrs Tom Taylor. Taylor Court which comprises 20 affordable homes for rent and sale has been built near the site of the Old Show Ground where Mr Taylor first found his love of football as a child watching Scunthorpe United, whom he later played for as a Junior. The ground was also regularly frequented by his father Tommy, a sports journalist with The Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph. Taylor Court on Twitpic Taylor Court The site, off Smith Street, has now been redeveloped by local housing association Guinness Northern Counties in partnership with local firm MFM Developments Ltd and with grant subsidy from the Homes and Communities Agency. Together they have provided 14 houses and apartments for affordable rent and 6 two and three bed houses for sale through the NewBuild Homebuy scheme. New build HomeBuy is a great way into home ownership. If you cant afford to buy outright, you can part buy and part rent your home. You might buy a 25%, 50% or 75% share in your home. You pay a discounted rent on the share that you dont buy. The bigger the share that you purchase, the less rent you have to pay. The monthly cost of buying the 50% shares and paying the rent on these properties is about two-thirds of what you would pay on a mortgage if you bought the property outright. When you can afford to do so, you can buy more shares until you own your home outright. New build HomeBuy housing schemes are usually intended for people who cannot afford to buy a suitable home in any other way. Applicants must usually be in housing need and be unable to afford outright purchase. The open day event is free to the public, with a show home available to view from midday to 4pm. Staff from Guinness Northern Counties and Guinness Homes will be on hand to answer questions from anyone interested in either the rented or New Build HomeBuy properties. Mr Taylor is due to arrive at 2pm with members of his family when he will unveil a plaque and present a new football strip from Guinness Northern Counties to the girls football team from Henderson Avenue Primary School, where Mr Taylor himself was once a pupil. As a thank you for helping to launch the scheme, Guinness Northern Counties are making a donation of 250 to Lincolnshire House. Mr Taylor is Patron of the Scunthorpe charity which provides residential, day and respite care services for adults with Cerebral Palsy. Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
