Making Markets Matter Comes To Scunthorpe

On Saturday 4th June Making Markets Matter is coming to Scunthorpe. Making Markets Matter is an events-based campaign that encourages support for local markets by demonstrating and communicating all the benefits of market shopping to the consumer. Scunthorpe Market It is estimated that collectively the UK public could save an astronomical �4,218,240,000 annually by shopping with independent market traders? This figure equates to an extra three shopping baskets per year per person! Markets offer a unique, personal service and a truly individual experience, they are a hub for communities and a place of entrepreneurial opportunities. Making Markets Matter events aim to increase footfall and raise awareness of these strengths on your local market. Activities include: Competitions, face painting, free giveaways and games to entertain the whole family. Last year Making Markets Matter ran eight campaigns across the country and this year they are fully booked with Scunthorpe Market being one of them. It's a pity the council have a disjointed policy when it comes to the market,it's clearly dying yet they still give that travelling circuses that professes to be a French market and a so called Farmers market High street or Church square prominence for Free .I know that Market stall holders take massive exception to this,especially as there is plenty of space in the Old outdoor market for them and the extra foot fall through would be a massive boost in these tough times

I would like to expand a little,the Travelling circuses are under the jurisdiction of the Tourist office and have their own remit which doesn't include improving the market .It's a pity they can't be forced to work out a suitable compramise as it seems these travelling markets are holding teh council to ransom
