Light Up A Life

21 September 2011 by Hamst

This year’s Light up a Life ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday, 16th November in the Clock Square at The Foundry Shopping Centre.

Scunthorpe Precinct 18-11-2010

In support of the local branch of Macmillan Cancer Support and Lindsey Lodge Hospice, for a minimum donation of £5, the Light up a Life campaign offers people the chance to remember the lives of those who have sadly passed away by having a light on the Tree of Remembrance at The Foundry Shopping Centre.  Nominations are also entered into the book of remembrance which will be on display in The Foundry from November until after Christmas.

This year will mark the 13th annual event and it is estimated that Light up a Life has raised upwards of £125,000 over the past 12 years for Macmillan Cancer Support and Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Originally the ceremony was held inside The Foundry but was limited to 200 people and three ceremonies had to be held to accomodated people wishing to attend, for the past few years it has been held outside in the Clock Square where many more can attend. Many of those who attend to remember family and friends carry tealights as a sign of their undimmed love.

This years ceremony will be slightly shorter but there will still be performances from talented local singers and bands.

Representatives from Macmillan Cancer Support will be at Podium in Scunthorpe Market on 30th September and in The Foundry Shopping Centre on the 1st, 8th and 10th October with application forms and to offer assistance in completing them.

Mission Statement

Visit Scunthorpe is North Lincolnshire's only truly independent, non commercial, community news web site.

Established in January 2010 we have lots of members with a wide range of views who all contribute independently with articles of their own.

You won't find dozens of adverts covering our site, or some poor attempt to promote local business services under the guise of offering a community service.

Here on VisitScunthorpe we are interested in just one thing, building an online community which is representative of the people of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

Paul. Founder Visit Scunthorpe.
